I have been supplying ornaments to jewellers in Chowk Sarrafa for years, and I built this app for the same reason I put a rate board at the counter: so that a buyer can see the number without having to ask for it. You will not be asked to register, and I will not learn anything about you from it.
Open the app and the rate is there. That is the whole arrangement. There is no account to make, no password to remember, no phone number to hand over first. A jeweller checking our rate from his own shop and a customer looking at it on the bus are, as far as this app is concerned, the same anonymous reader — and I have no way to tell one from the other, or to know that either of them opened it at all.
What we are asking for gold and for silver today, at whatever purity we are trading that morning, with the standard printed next to each. Below it, the market these prices sit inside — exchange futures and the international spot line, both public, kept there so our own figure is not quoted in a vacuum. Coin rates are simple arithmetic on those figures. Then whatever we have announced — new stock, festival timings — along with our address, our hours and our bank details for buyers who settle by transfer. When we are running one, regular buyers will also see the Special Rate card they know from the counter.
All of it is fetched from our own servers, and it travels one way: towards your screen.
What the app will never do is tell you what the rate is about to do, or whether this is a good morning to buy. I am a wholesaler, not an adviser. The number is the number; the decision is yours, and it always was.
The app will ask you once whether messages from the shop are welcome. It does not ask at the splash screen — it waits until the board has filled in and you have had a moment to look at it, because nobody should be answering that question before they know what the app even is. Say no and nothing else changes: every rate is exactly where it was.
Say yes, and here is what actually happens. Messages ride on Firebase Cloud Messaging, which is Google's. So that a message can find a handset at all, Google gives your copy of the app an anonymous registration number. It stays with Google, under Google's own privacy policy. It does not come to me.
What reaches you, reaches everyone who said yes, at the same moment. Think of the boy who calls out across the shop floor that the new lot has come in — whoever is standing there hears him, and he is not calling anybody by name. I keep no register of customers' phones. Even if I wanted to send something to one buyer and not another, there is nothing in this app that would let me.
You can end it whenever you like: open iOS Settings, find Dhanshree Abhushan Kendra in the list, tap Notifications and turn them off. It takes effect straight away, and the rates carry on as before.
Sometimes what I send has a photograph with it — a new design, a festival notice. Your phone goes and collects that photograph from our server as the message lands, and nothing about you travels along with the asking; it requests a picture and it gets a picture. If it cannot be fetched, the words still reach you. Better you read me without the photo than not at all.
Two habits are remembered so the app opens the way you left it — how large you set the type, and which panel you were last on. Both are written into your own handset and go nowhere else.
As for everything a shop might normally ask a customer: your name, a telephone number, an address, an Aadhaar or PAN, bank or card particulars — none of it is requested here, so none of it exists in this app to be lost, sold or leaked. Nor does the app reach for anything the phone itself holds. It does not look at where you are, it does not open your contacts, it does not touch your photographs, and it carries no advertising identifier. Beyond the messaging service described above, there is no second piece of outside code in it — nothing counting, nothing watching, nothing following you into other apps.
Our number opens your dialler. The WhatsApp button opens WhatsApp. A web link opens your browser. From that moment you are in somebody else's app, under somebody else's policy, and this one has nothing more to say about it.
Nothing personal was ever collected, so there is no file at this shop with your name on it — nothing I could hand you a copy of if you asked for one, and nothing I could destroy if you asked me to. Delete the app and the two saved habits go with it.
The rating is 4+. There is nothing here a child should not see — a rate board and a few notices is all it has ever been — and since nothing is collected from anyone, nothing is collected from a child.
If the app changes in a way that affects any of this, I will say so on this page and move the date at the top. Questions come to me directly; there is nobody else to route them through.
